Last June, we took a few days in Edinburgh to walk the stone streets and soak in the rich Scottish history. To contrast that old feel, we chose to stay at The Virgin Hotel Edinburgh, a place that effortlessly marries luxury and innovation in the heart of Scotland’s historic capital. Besides the obvious (a great location, friendly staff, and fine dining), here are a few of our favorite touches that made our stay extra special.
Makeup Vanity
Let’s be honest: European bathrooms are not made to be comfortable, and Edinburgh lacks spacious real estate. Somehow, though, Virgin Hotels has managed to create the most luxurious of bathrooms. And the shining star is the perfectly placed makeup vanity—no need to worry about fighting over the mirror or picking up your makeup sprawled across the counter. Instead, sit comfortably on the plush velvet seat and turn on your makeup light. And as if this couldn’t get any better, there’s an outlet nearby for hair tools!
Eve
A nod to Virgin Records, the hotel’s ground floor restaurant, Eve, holds a DJ booth with a record player. Late-night entertainment draws in a unique crowd of visitors and locals from Thursday- Saturday. Eve’s cocktails reflect the modern innovation of the hotel, and their small plates ensure you enjoy many different flavors throughout the night!
The Lobby Playlist
Keeping with the music theme, Virgin Hotel’s lobby playlist was so unique. It was always an exciting and unexpected surprise after returning from Old Town Edinburgh. While waiting for our car service, we couldn’t help but dance, and as we walked up the red carpet staircase to our room (The Sir. Richard Flat), our tired feet had a little extra pep in their step.
The Sir Richard Flat Bathtub
As if the vanity wasn’t enough to leave us swooning over Virgin Hotel’s well-thought-out bathroom, the large free-standing roll-top bath in the center of the room will push you over the edge. With no shortage of room to stretch your legs and bubbles up to your ears, you’ll be revived for another day of exploring Edinburgh!
Entrance
To go with the spunky music and modern design, Virgin Hotel Edinburgh created a hallway to make you feel like the main event every time you enter the property. The white pieces of mosaic glitter against the light from behind the wall, and the curved tunnel shape feels like a portal to another world. At the end of the hallway sits the concierge – ready to assist with whatever you need!
